Post-Doctoral Positions

Post-Doctoral Position, Université Catholique de Louvain (UCL)

  • Post-doctoral position (12 months renewable once) for the project: “Avicenna East & West I: Commentaries on the Qaṣīdat al-nafs” (FRS-FNRS; UCLouvain, Louvain-la-Neuve, Belgium)
  • Aim of this project on the commentaries on the Qasidat al-nafs attributed to Avicenna is twofold: (1) to provide a better understanding of how Avicenna’s theory on the soul was received, interpreted and transformed in this tradition of commentaries; and (2) to document the attitude towards Avicenna’s legacy, and falsafa in general, in Islamic society

Racialization of Islam Post-Doctoral Fellowship, Yale University

  • The Center for the Study of Race, Indigeneity, and Transnational Migration at Yale University invites applications for a one-year Postdoctoral Associate position under its initiative to study the Racialization of Islam beginning on 01 July 2019

Post-Doctoral Researcher, CNRS

  • Researcher will be recruited within the framework of the ANR-DFG EGYLandscape project; this project aims at developing scholarly research about the rural history of Egypt in pre-modern times, from the 13th to 18th c.
  • The scholar will be part of the « French team » and work under the supervision of Nicolas Michel. He/She will be attached to the research laboratory “Institut de recherches et d’études sur les mondes arabes et musulmans” (IREMAM, UMR 7310), at Aix-en-Provence, and will be integrated to the IREMAM team of historians.
  • Recent thesis in the history of the Near East from 13th to 19th C., or in the history of Egypt during the same period (British Occupation 1882-1922 included) preferred; thesis defended preferably after 01 May 2017
  • Must be fluent in English, French preferred; must be able to read documents in Arabic

Post-Doctoral Research Fellow on Mediterranean Islamisms, University of Edinburgh

  • The Alwaleed Centre at the University of Edinburgh seeks to appoint a two-year Post-Doctoral Research Fellow to implement its research activities and contribute to its teaching and outreach programme.
  • The successful candidate will be expected to conduct research in the field of Islamist parties and movements’ role in political governance in the contemporary Mediterranean region.
  • Applications would be particularly welcome from candidates who demonstrate expertise in conducting comparative research on different aspects of contemporary politics and Islamism in the countries of the Mediterranean region.

Post-Doctoral Researcher in Islamic Studies, SOAS University of London

  • Position for a Post-Doctoral Researcher in Islamic Studies to conduct outstanding research in Islamic Studies and contribute to the advancement of Islamic Studies at SOAS and beyond
  • Successful candidate will be expected to conduct excellent research relating to Qur’anic Studies, preferably the Qur’an’s structure, coherence and its ways of making impact on the reader/listener, and publish at least two outstanding outputs as an outcome of the research

Imam Ali Chair for Shi‘i Studies and Dialogue among Islamic Legal Schools — Hartford Seminary

  • Open rank; Ph.D. or its equivalent is required.
  • A Shi‘i scholar with a distinguished record that includes an academic doctorate, religious training and lived religious commitments.
  • The appointment is to the core faculty of the seminary and will be a member of the Macdonald Center for the Study of Islam and Christian-Muslim Relations.
  • Full-time teaching load of four courses per year
