Brian Van Wyck is a doctoral candidate in the Department of History at Michigan State University. His dissertationresearch examines teachers and imams from Turkey in West Germany and argues that German and Turkish policies and public attitudes toward these two groups reflect changing ideas about Islam, culture, race, and modernity in both countries.His work has appeared in Geschichte und Gesellschaft and the Routledge Encyclopedia of Modernism.
